Heavy Water

We walked down to Greta bridge in Keswick this morning to see the flood damage. The centre of town is really getting back on its feet and visitors are welcome and wanted.
The houses and businesses directly flooded though are looking quite a sorry and sobering sight, with bulging skips of discarded furniture and kitchen goods piled outside.
At this point the river flows roughly westwards and then hangs a sharp left , so the forces on the flood defences were colossal. The water flowed over the top of this glass partition, but it survived the pressure, so thanks to the Civil engineers who designed that. It just wasn't high enough . The photo shows the vegetation caught on the top of the glass wall.
Extra shows LooseCanon looking in disbelief at the damaged road surface on the bridge.
