Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Feathered Friend

After working all morning upstairs, I brought the pooches downstairs mid-day to take a stroll through the back yard, but just before I opened the sliding glass door, I realized who was sitting on the chain-link fence just below our property. So we waited, and actually, waited for quite a long time for this feathered friend to fly and not to be disturbed by the dogs. Then we went outside.

The Army Corps of Engineers has ordered some clean-up of the meadowland behind our neighborhood because the local kids have been trespassing into the area and hanging around inside the green area. I'm sure that all the ruckus the workers were making using their chainsaws caused this guy to vacate the area for a while.

This photo shows the contrast between the green belt and the cleared land close to the houses. After all the fires in Colorado, we have a better appreciation of the cleared land, the bare dirt, nearest to our property line.

The intense heat in most of the nation and the rain in the Northwest has also caused us great appreciation for the mild summer weather that we're experiencing. The sun broke through the coastal clouds at about 10:30 this morning and the high today was 81 degrees F . . . very enjoyable.

Well, tomorrow is the big holiday, July 4th -- Independence Day. Our plans are simply to relax while having a slow "do-nothing" day.

Good night from Southern California.
