Don't forget Cumbria

Everywhere is now so sodden that every time it rains somewhere it floods.  More heavy rain overnight resulted in another surge in the River Kent - supposedly the country's fastest rising and falling river.  I haven't been into Kendal today but the graph tells its own story.

Meanwhile, for some reason, the Government has not claimed any emergency funding from the EU.  I can think of political reasons why not.  And they have said they will "look into" further flood defences.

But thats not a solution on its own: where is all the discussion about catchment management (a 100 year project); about designing and refitting buildings to better cope with flooding; about allowing planned flooding in some areas; about reducing the carbon emissions that probably have exacerbated these weather extremes.

Oh, of course there is going to be fracking and reduced support for renewables. . . . . .
