Pokey

Pokey is our queen parrot. She rules the bird kingdom, at least at our house, thru shear force of personality. She has been part of our family for at least 10 years and has had several chicks, most of whom have shared her dominating personality, at least according to their new families. She is quite a lady. She loves being broody and having eggs at least for a few weeks, then she gets tired of the whole business and we end up hand rearing the chicks. This produces very sweet babies. Poke was hand reared herself by my son and daughter.

I had flatly forbid them from adding another bird, but they somehow decided giving her to me as a gift was a loophole, and thankfully, Poke joined the family. Her mate is our original parrot, Zeus, also known as Zorkon the magnificent.

Poke is a jenday conure. She is about 12 inches long and weighs about 4 , ounces. Her favroite foods are corn, rice, cheese, chile peppers and anything one of the humans is eating.

Her favorite hobby is terrorizing Phil the macaw, when she is manages to sneak by several lines of defense and gets close enough to fly at him.
