Space, the final frontier
I went to the Science Museum in London today for the first time since I was a kid. I saw two interesting exhibitions of photography. There was a free one on Julia Margaret Cameron who was born 200 years ago, took up photography when she was 48, and took portraits for the next 15 years. I quite enjoyed this one. I also went to a paid exhibition on the photographs of Alec Soth called Gathered Leaves. Alec is a leading documentary photographer. Although I enjoyed the exhibition, I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a specific trip.
I really enjoyed the exhibition on the internet / the information age as that is what I've lived through. The two photos I've included are from the space exhibition, as I thought this was quite relevant with the British astronaut Tim Peake being in the news (he was born in the same year as the last moon landing). This space suit has Buzz Aldrin on the name tag and an Apollo 11 badge, but I suspect it's a replica. The extra is of the actual Command Module for Apollo 10. I was only 6 when man landed on the moon and I don't remember it, although I do vaguely remember watching one of the trips with the moon buggy. It's about time we went back!
At work I used to quote the following JFK statement as being a really well phrased objective.
"I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth."
John F Kennedy 1961
