The Thrill of a New Bath Toy
This bowl has a long, long history in my family.
It belonged to my mother for many years and moved with her from NY to Minnesota and then to Wyoming. When she was about to move back to NY 10 years ago, her dog Belvedere ruptured both of his cruciate ligaments and could not walk. I was in vet school at the time, and told Mom to send Bel to me, even though my landlord would not allow dogs. When I picked up Bel at the airport in Raleigh, he was quivering in his crate which also contained this bowl and a pillow. I convinced the landlord to accept dogs, repaired Bel's knees, and then couldn't give him up because he was just such a fantastic dog. Bel also introduced us to our Cambodian neighbors who were also smuggling a dog in to their apartment. They became our best friends and we are still in touch 8 years after we moved and after all the dogs who made us friends have now passed on.
The bowl then moved with me to Texas and back again to NY (14 years after it had left) using it along the way as mixing bowl, occasional scoop, or water bowl for visiting pets. The other day, as I was cleaning up, I decided that Bob's bath toys needed a container and the bowl fit the bill. Bob thought it was a fantastic new toy, and so the bowl is now enjoyed by generation #3 (or 3.5 if you count Bel).
