Peat and muck washed away

I love long exposure shots and today after work, I took Toddler E for a walk along the Water of Leith, whilst Mum went for a relaxing treatment. It was great father son time and allowed me to capture this.

Still not happy with my long exposure techniques but the filters do help. I also need to get a tripod as this was taken freehand and I am really seeing the limits of free hand especially as you start to approach the full 1 second shutter speed. Some of the photos I would like to take will need much longer than that so a tripod it is.

Looking for a light wight, compact that with take the 60D and a 85mm lens but not break the bank if anyone has any suggestions?
