Eagle Eye?

Just snapped a few shots of distant kites over the lake from a layby, thinking how they would not be close enough to use as a blip, when I heard a terrific scolding from a tree of the other side of the road. I swung around and saw this. Is it a Golden Eagle or am I imagining it? I will be putting in the next shot I took as it swooped away which is useful for the tail shape and the huge wing feathers for anyone who might like to identify it.
