Moeraki Boulders (Kaihinaki)

Early this morning I headed down to Moeraki  hoping to beat the crowds of tourists (yes, I know I'm one of them).  And I pretty much did - a bus was just leaving when I arrived and there were probably only 20 people at the boulders when I got to them.

Mind you, that didn't mean I could get any decent photos.  Holding onto Jasper's lead with one hand and a camera with the other doesn't really make for good photos, but it wouldn't have been fair to leave her in the car.

She had a wonderful time racing around in circles, kicking up sand and chasing waves.   All within the 5 metres from me that her lead allows her, because she is still too daft to be let off.  And anyway, I don't like dogs on the loose in public places.  Today she learnt that salt water doesn't quench thirst! As I said - still daft.

NOTE:  She is on her lead - but I photoshopped it out.

When we left there it was on to Palmerston to buy a coffee then back to drink it at Blaze's cross.  Whenever I'm there, and traffic is roaring past (it is a state highway after all) it reminds me that I've never seen anyone at any of the crosses on the roadsides.  Surely people don't just put up the cross and then never return?  Maybe they do.  It's possible that I'm an oddity.

Each time I go there I think how naked his cross is, but the thought of putting flowers on it when I can't go back in a week or two to tidy them up gives me the horrors.  I would hate tatty dead flowers to be hanging off it - or faded pretend ones!  I generally take him a rock/stone, and there is quite a pile of them at the foot of the cross that family and friends have placed there over the past two years.

Oops, got sidetracked.

So it was quite sweet to arrive there today to find a flower (yes, I know it's a weed) growing up beside him, and appearing to hold his hand.  Mind you Blaze was 6' 4", so that is a metaphorically tall weed!

My heart wanted to blip the cross today (as it usually does), but in the end I decided to post the living on my blip.  The extra is of the friendly weed.
