Back to the future ...

When this service station was opened in the 1960's it was trumpeting the arrival of the motorcar and the motorway. It also heralded the end of the local railway network thanks to the cuts attributed to Dr Beeching.

With hindsight, those local railways, really did have a place in the 21st century transport planning and the motorway age, is not living up to the confident statement that Forton Services tried to make about it when it was opened on the M6 in 1965.

Our journey from Gloucestershire to Edinburgh today  was subject to two closures of the M6 due to accidents.

We bade our fond farewells to our little ones and their parents  at 1000 and were back in  Joppa by 1700.
