Cumbria Here I Come

Remembering....

Its been a year today since I lost my mum so took a trip to Bassenthwaite especially to blip a dead tree!  She loved dead trees because of the wonderful shapes of the branches and I know she would have loved this one.  My step dad who was an artist did an oil painting of one for her many years ago.

Its the first time I've been to Bassenthwaite since the storm two weeks ago and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get to this tree as whilst walking through the woods I could see the water levels on the lake were high and the surrounding fields were flooded.  The tunnel which goes under the A66 was full of debris and soggy water but I had wellies on so was fine to wade through.   I was able to get to the tree but no further as the water was over the footpath and too deep even for wellies :)  Oh and we got wet! Lots of heavy showers!

The first thing I saw after I got through the tunnel is in Extras!  How extraordinary.
