The Foundling Museum

This rather jovial looking chap is Thomas Coram - the brains behind the Foundling Museum.

At one corner of the lovely gardens behind the Brunswick Shopping Centre is this interesting museum - and it has a super vegetarian café too.

This morning, before we headed home, we had a wander around this pretty corner of Bloomsbury, past all the blue plaques and interesting cafes. It is truly a charming part of London - well worth a leisurely visit if you have time.

Last night's opera "Eugene Onegin" was stunningly wonderful. Dmitri Hvorostovsky was diagnosed with a tumour this year and had treatment. I was delighted and rather surprised to hear that he had returned to sing at the Met in September. He also intended to appear in his scheduled Covent Garden role so I booked tickets for the first night with great hope. I was thrilled to see his  magnificent performance in the title role of this powerful Tchaikovsky opera.  He is one of the greatest baritones to grace the stage at present.

His appearance was made even more poignant because, very sadly and worryingly, he is unable to complete the January scheduled dates as he has to return for further treatment. Let's wish  him well and keep him in our prayers.
