New Chums Beach
On the Coromandel Peninsula. You can only get there by boat or on foot. We walked. A magical spot. Native forest including Pohutakawa trees (flowering at this time of year) right down to the golden sand beach. We topped they day off with a trip to Hot Water Beach after dinner. You take a spade and dig a hole in the sand and sit in the water heated by geothermal activity. The water is too hot to sit in directly, you have to open your self-dug pool up to the sea water from time to time to cool it down. Seriously. You literally can't even put a toe in it otherwise.
