The tower in the trees

I stopped on the way to Christmas shopping in Elgin to take this. I've uploaded a closer view as an extra.

The tower is Coxton Castle. It's a Scottish tower house built in the 17th century (but in a somewhat earlier style), quite small, with only one modest-sized room per floor. One interesting fact about it is that no wood was used in its construction; the family who built, having had a rather unfortunate experience when its predecessor was burned down, wanted to make it fireproof.

It now sits in the garden of a (relatively) modern house. Many years ago, I went and knocked on the door and the owner very kindly let me in to have a look around the Castle. I took this shot, though, from the roadside.

20+ years ago I remember taking a shot of this on black & white infrared film... I must dig that out.
