Cultural mixture

Today has been the day we visited Hampton Court.  We've never been there before and took advantage of being south of Watford Gap to go there.  It was so much more than I had expected!  I knew about all the Henry VIII bits of history, but had no idea about about the Georgian part of its history.  The plan of William and Mary (I think) had been to replace the Tudor palace with a brand new modern building, but so many things went wrong that they gave up on the project halfway through.  So Hampton Court remains to this day a Palace of two halves and a really mixture of cultures now the modern age is influencing how the buildings are presented.

I like this shot because the gardens are so beautiful and they must half a whole host of secateur wielding gardeners to keep all those trees in check. Then you can see the beautiful symmetry of the Georgian part of the building.  The different shapes of the windows on the different floors of the building fascinated me, and then there are the chimneys!  So many of them up on that flat roof.

Then if you look into the distance you can see the chimneys on the Tudor part of the building and the different style of brickwork.  I also loved the trees with the mistletoe in the distance.

So much to see...
