The Moon for Company

Up to the time I retired four years ago the Christmas party was something I always looked forward to as it was one of the few nights when colleagues managed to socialize without the stress of rushing home. Tonight as former colleagues celebrate I have the moon for company. I could go out but choose not to. I had enough of Christmas jumper clad gangs of over jovial, tipsy loud people when the real meaning of Christmas is trodden into the ground.... I have lost so many friends and colleagues this year tonight I watched the moon and wondered........just saying

This link is for those with time on their hands. Some will think afterwards they will never get this time back.... It's beautiful, it's hauntingly sung ...but may be too long for some...

And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

"And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
And I watch my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving old dreams of past glory
And the old men march slowly, all bent, stiff and sore
The forgotten heroes from a forgotten war
And the young people ask, "What are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all"
