The Promise of Snow

The weather forecast was for snow and it duly delivered but in minuscule quantities. However, then the temperatures started to drop rapidly and the light snow glaze froze over everything, making the roads and pavements a lethal mixture of black ice and snow, even the buses were stopping to fit snow chains.
