The Sir Tatton Sykes Memorial at Sledmere

I have always wondered why a man who actually did little more than be a successful Horse racing breeder. farmer, etc, managed to have 3,000 people attend his funeral and this monstrous memorial raised "By public subscription."
Whatever it was he had, it was massively effective among his peers, for him to be so popular.
There's no way you can argue with that!
When I was a teenager you could knock at the door of the lodge on the other side of the road and enter the monument and after climbing the very steep interior be rewarded with the view from the strip windows near the top.
