Pointe Percée from above St Gervais
More glorious blue skies were wonderful to wake up to again today - so after a lazy breakfast we decided to have a wander around the outlying parts of the village, today's blip was taken from the slopes of Mont Paccard looking South West to the Chaine des Aravis.
St Gervais is an astonishingly attractive town - having first become a tourist destination for the rich of Victorian times coming to enjoy the hydrotherapy and cleansing benefits of the mountain air, its managed to retain many of those wonderfully historic and frankly beautiful buildings. Today we read that the Gustav Eiffel designed chateau just off the main square is now due for renovation - just after the sparkly and attractive new fire station is completed - emphasising the great balance of old & new that the town's Maire seems able to achieve.
Wandering amongst the back streets there are plenty of the apartment blocks I guess the economy needs - but also dilapidated log cabins, rich Parisian (local insult!) playhouses and hidden gems such as today's extra.
