Celebrating

I’m not going to end up drunk
under the table. That’s not the plan
because (obviously) I’m wiser now
and not a young man


though, when young, my chosen tipple
was a gin and martini 50/50 mix.
I used to add martini rather than tonic
but now that concoction would knock me for six.


No, just a traditional Sunday lunch
and a glass of wine
before we move on to another pub
to hear some music will suit me fine.


I’ll probably have two more drinks
there but that will suffice.
And, on this day, I expect there to be
some rueful chat about how time flies.
