Richard's Pencil Case

Saw this case while having a clean up in my garage. Richard made it when he was at high school. There is an inscription on it which looks like "If the rule cased tends to roam. Smack it's bum and send it home. I Googled it and found a book titled "There is a happy land"  With "If this book should chance to roam, smack its bum and send it home." at the start. I guess that where he got it from. I thought it might have early beginnings of his being a published author.
