Flooding
It is Tuesday morning and the rain that started with a massive storm on Sunday is still coming down.
The Federal and State governments have declared Brisbane a natural disaster zone. There will be some serious questions that really need to be answered over the next few weeks though. The army was only brought in last night when it became obvious that the State Emergency Service couldn't handle all the calls for assistance. A response 24 hours earlier would have been better. Some people who lost their roofs still hadn't received help late yesterday. Understandably the Emergency Services are doing their best but there are extra resources to call on in this sort of situation and as usual the Government was slow to react.
Rant over.
Luckily for us we didn't get the worst of the storm. There is some localised flooding but for the most part it is just another rainy day. The area in this photo has been a flood plain for as long as I can remember. When a deluge comes it floods and can take weeks to drain. Some poor bastard developer actually owns this land. Over the years they have tried to promote it for a housing estate and a golf course, usually during the dry months. Nobody local fell for that one. It is and always will be a flood plain.
Another lazy morning for me. I am now going to practice my learners permit for a truck online. I have another lesson tomorrow. I hope it isn't raining then
