waiting for fireworks

It is "Canada Day" today, the anniversary of confederation and as well as a holiday to anticipate tomorrow, there s a fireworks display to enjoy, although they are usually not as spectacular as the 4th f July displays organized by our southern neighbours.

Tonight, I left my house close to the river and went to a friend's house up on the ridge overlooking the Bow Valley to watch the show. As you can see, they have a spectacular vista of the city centre. Here you can see some of the early spectators, having grabbed their spots, waiting for the show to start. At this point there us still an hour and a bit to go.

Mother nature obliged. First of all with a spectacular sunset which set all the glassy downtown buildings in a shimmering golden light, then with a lightning storm to the North and finally with a beautiful full moon. The fireworks themselves were a minor addition.
