Distorted awareness

Living in a city like this means the noise just never stops. Cars, sirens, even helicopters, in the course of time you become oblivious to these noises. I always thought it was not that bad yet with my alertness, but little did I know. Tonight an explosion occurred down the street, bring down a rain of bricks of the building's front. Luckily no-one got hurt, but emergency services were there in big numbers, with including all sounds listed above. Here the thing: Marten and I just did not notice a thing. No explosion, no sirens, no helicopters - I happened to find out by scrolling through my Twitter feed (which I hardly ever do), opened the curtains and found this view.
