Gently down the stream

The Hospital of St Cross

The Hospital of St Cross & Almshouses of Noble Poverty, to give it its rather wonderful (ie muddled concept) full name.

Today has been full of threatening clouds, rain and wonderful extended flashes of sunlight (not sure you can have an extended flash, but suspect you will know what I mean!).  Here the afternoon sun is hitting the south side of this wonderful Norman church and to the left of the picture that row of poles are actually the long chimneys on each of the Brothers' dwellings.  I really think the church in its idyllic setting is one of the most beautiful medieval buildings still in use in this country.

You can find more information about it here if interested.

Glossing over neighbour unpleasantness re wind-damaged garden fence, I will just tell you the other wonderful thing about today is the singing tonight.  Culmination of a term's work, la la la!  Now it's really beginning to feel like Christmas.

Excuse me if I'm late commenting and enjoy your Tuesday evening  xx
