The day started with the realisation that Frank's nursing home ( and the rest of the Lancaster area) were without power and that this may last for days. There are good contingency plans in place to secure a generator but this was a little hindered by being cut off by flood water and closed bridges coupled with landlines, internet and mobile connections being down. Anne came up trumps ( having rescued 60 calves from several feet of water and rehoused them in her back garden) by negotiating floodwater to collect a 2 tonne generator and delivering it. Staff turned in off shift without being asked ( some walking miles), Morrisons arrived unannounced and unsolicited with a free delivery of essentials, our electrician pitched up to connect us and the residents led the way with a "Blitz Spirit".
The celebrations when we finally switched the lights on were heartwarming.
People are good.
