We were in the Hotel Saccharum....

...which means sugar-cane, and was built on the site of an old mill. I was pleased to see that the hotel incorporates its history by using the artefacts in its décor, and with a gallery of photos, film and objects. This is a photo of the William Hinton Company in Funchal, who'd evidently done well enough to upgrade from ox-carts.
