horns of wilmington's cow

Oh I do like to be beside the Joksijde

The rear mech has a worried look on its face for good reason. Tomorrow the Scottish Cyclocross Championships hit the beach at Irvine, one of the best and worst courses on the calendar. It's a brute, a rollercoaster, with a long sand section, supplemented this year with an additional sandy slope. Last year the wind howled and stopped you dead at the top of crests, a rider in front of me went down and broke his ankle on the first lap, and by the end I could barely manage another pedal stroke.

It was great.

Tomorrow should see the wind drop to a more manageable 20mph or so (with 40mph gusts); but the rain is forecast to go off. But then it's cyclocross, it's supposed to be brutal.

Need to get there relatively early this year to get as many photos as possible of the Vet 50, Women, Junior and Vet 40 races, given Cycling Weekly and Cycle Sport mags have expressed an interest in not only seeing some shots, but actually paying for them. At the very least I've got the contact details now of someone in the art department who dropped me a line.

p.s. Joksijde is a playful name for the race, mirroring a famous Belgian cross race at Koksijde.
