Athens. 35th Anniversary of Polytechnic Uprising

The celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic uprising will culminate Monday afternoon with the customary march towards the US embassy scheduled for 1500 hours. Thousands of police officers have been on standby to make sure nothing mars the celebrations, while professors, students and reps of social bodies will remain inside the Polytechnic's premises to protect the place. Roads leading to the US embassy will gradually close, and bus services will be altered.
SYN President Alexis Tsipras laid a wreath on Monday morning, heading a SYN delegation. "The Polytechnic uprising proved the everyday people, through collective action, can change the situation. The employees and the youth are necessary to believe in themselves, since we have come up against a world capitalist crisis and the dangers and challenges are huge," said SYRIZA
