And chill

I was rather dreading today. A day trip to Heathrow for a short meeting, which was an unwelcome distraction from a load of admin chores I need to do in the office, was further complicated when my brother, Wol, asked if I could take the car down and bring back up a load of Christmas presents from him to my kids. That's a tough request to turn down!

But then the meeting was deferred around the same Wol decided I didn't need to do the cargo run. Thus it was that I found myself with a day in the office is to catch up on various odds and sods, take my turn at making the brews, and generally sort my desk out. (OK, I didn't quite finish the last job.)

I worked late, too, rewarding myself with a beer from the office fridge, before driving up to Oxenholme to collect Hannah, whence we proceeded to Kirkby Lonsdale's fine curry house for a bite to eat and a bit of a catch up, followed by a glass of wine at Avanti, where Milly was working.

Hannah is up because it's Milly's birthday, tomorrow, and we're having breakfast together in the morning but we all ended up having drinks at the cottage when Milly and her chap, Evan, finished work, and, just after midnight, I gave Milly one of her presents. By that stage I'd moved from the wine to the malt whisky, which I was drinking out of this gorgeous shot glass, one of a set of three that Izzy brought me back from Ecuador, this summer.
