Cooking with Jamie ~ Great Britain style

It's been another "out and about" day with my daughter Emma, leaving me with no time at all to catch up on all of the latest blip photos over the weekend, but I will be doing so tomorrow.

Tomorrow...when I also catch up on the housework, the washing, the ironing, the office work...the list goes on. But I know I would be dreadfully bored if my life were any less hectic.

One thing I do wish I had more time for in my life is cooking, and trying out new recipes. I love cooking, and in a great show of love today, my eyes met the cover of a cookbook across the other side of a shop, and it was love at first site.

I simply had to bring this book home with me! I'm the first one to admit that I have enough cookbooks to fill a small bookcase, but this book is special, and I couldn't resist it!

"Jamie's Great Britain", by Jamie Oliver, is filled from cover to cover with delicious, scrumptious, comfort food. There's nothing fancy or posh about his recipes, just the good, traditional hearty food I grew up on, as cooked by my Cheshire born mum.

There's Bubble and Squeak, just like my dad used to make on a Sunday morning from Saturday nights leftovers, and even butties. Butties!! I haven't called sandwiches by that name since I was a child! As my mum used to say, Australian's just didn't know plain English!

And Eccles Cakes, and Yorkshire Pudding, Oxtail Stew and even a traditional recipe for mint sauce, just like my mum used to make.

Apart from being a basic necessity in life, food is brilliantly responsible for bringing back memories, of another time, another place, and magical moments from a lifetime ago.
