An' the moon comin' oot in the gloamin?.
Boy camped this week with girlfriend. They've tried before and it wasn't good, but I liked their optimism, but despite the sun shining as they left, it soon turned wet, and muggy... and they came home.
Si, took the tent out of the bag which Boy used for ONE night, and shouted for me to come out and look..... and this vision brought back this memory.
When I was about 9, we went a caravan holiday at Loch Lomond. Mum, Dad my sister and me.
The campsite was right by the Lochside, and there was plenty to do - splashing around in the waters, playing with bats and screaming when people fished out eels from the water....
On the last Friday night of our Holiday, our mum and dad's friends came up for the Friday and Saturday night, as was the way back then. Holidays were never that far away from home and as Nant will testify, any number of family or friends could turn up at your holiday base and enjoy a night or two of your hospitality.
The midgies were biting hard that night, and with kids running in and out of the caravan as were the wont, the caravan was full of them. The Dorby's arrived, and Mrs D took one look at the caravan and headed to the on-site store.
My Friday evening's entertainment was spent, watching Mrs D. from outside the caravan, jumping from seat to seat, wiping every surface, wall, ceiling and units with bleach to get rid of those damned beasties.
My but that caravan was clean, and smelt ... well bleachie!
Memories are made of this.
This is a tent inner covered in dead midgies!
