Sweet treats enroute to Gjirokastra
The group were taken on a hike up an astonishingly steep hillside to go and see a traditional house and enjoy some home made sweets and Raki. I was knackered, feeling quite unfit, and cried off in favour of relaxing with an espresso and a good book. I had booked with an adventure company so had anticipated some movement but it had been graded as easyish 'walking and cultural tours and shopping at bazaars'. It was becoming clear to most of us that it was going to be far more strenuous than anticipated.
I perked up at the invitation to visit a sweet factor on the way to Gjirokastra. The factory makes special kinds of sweets, including walnuts that are soaked for years and eventually become sweet nutty gloopy treats. The raki was to be enjoyed another night.
