Giant Mushroom

This has to be the biggest mushroom I have ever come across. A whole bunch of them growing by the roadside between home and the town and under some trees, mostly beech. Sizewise it's 23cms/9ins tall and 18cms/7ins across the cap. Colour: best described as a slightly dark yellow ochre. Smell: musty, not at all like a field mushroom. I'm pretty sure it can't be a boletus. Anyone got any ideas?
Back later after camera club meeting. It's quiz night tonight and yours truly is the quizmaster. They had better all be on top of their game. It's not going to be too easy!!!
