Cafe at Bear Steps, Shrewsbury.
Back to Kent today. Called into Shrewsbury on the for a coffee and mosey around first thing. The town centre is crammed full of old, interesting buildings separated by narrow passages called Shuts. Apparently Bear Steps derived its name from being the steps to the long demolished Bear public house. I can't find any information quickly on the internet about the house that the cafe now occupies. We've been in it, not on this occasion, it is a very challenging place for a tall person like me. I can't even stand up between the beams.
The journey back to Kent was not the best. The M6 around Birmingham was congested at 2.00pm on a Sunday afternoon, the weather was atrocious although it cleared up later. The worst part of the whole trip was, once again, the M25. The Dartford Crossing had long delays owing to lanes being closed because of high winds. We took an alternative route which is usually ok, if a little longer, through the Blackwall Tunnel. Not a good move as traffic was diverting from M25 coupled with the usually heavy traffic to cause over an hour's delay in travelling a couple of miles. Not helped by drivers whizzing down the right hand lane to avoid the left turn queue and pushing in at the end.
