Ohrid, Macedonia
Firstly, thank you for all the messages left for my 200th blip. I haven't had internet access over the last two weeks so I will of course be catching up with each and everyone of you now I am back.
Enjoyed a very good tour of Albania (and two days in Macedonia). A beautiful and fascinating Country.
There was a group of seventeen of us in total, which included some serious adventurers, one of whom lived permanently in a camper van. There was a filthy rich couple, a female vicar, a feisty New Yorker and her Canadian pal, an elderly gay couple and some young singletons. It was going to be interesting!
After an overnight stay in Tirana we visited Elbasan before crossing the border into Macedonia. We were headed for the ancient town of Ohrid, which as well as having a beautiful lake that runs through both Albania and Macedonia, has also been a fortress since Roman times and has a rather turbulent past.
I took the opportunity to explore the old town surrounding the lake while the others hiked up seemingly endless steps up to an old church. The town had some very proud gardeners and there were the most wonderful roses growing everywhere. I met this lovely lady who, despite not being able to communicate with each other very well, was very happy to rest for a few moments to pose for me before continuing her steep climb.
Some other pictures taken on the 17th in Tirana and on the 18th in Macedonia.
