Advent

Today's project has been preparing the advent ring for church tomorrow.
This year as requested I've just used greenery so that the significance of each variety can be explained.....and I thought it was just about the candles!

So this is the explanation of each element for anyone who may be interested:

Holly - The prickly leaves represent the crown of thorns and the berries, the drops of blood that were shed.

Ivy - has to cling to something for support, reminding us that we need to cling to God for support in our lives.

Laurel - has been worn as a wreath on the head for thousands of years, to symbolise victory. Victory of God over the devil.

Fir - Evergreen and so signifies everlasting life with God.
