Madison Maersk
I went to the opticians in Felixstowe earlier to pick up my new glasses and to have a chat and fitting for contact lenses! Just been able to wear them for three hours today and so far so good, then six, nine and twelve hours (maximum). I've to go back next week to let them know how I've been with them and if I want to commit to using them on a more permanent basis.
After I had finished there I went to the viewing area at Felixstowe Port and enjoyed a sausage butty and cup of Earl Grey whilst watching the Madison Maersk being loaded/unloaded. (Pity my granddaughter Maddison wasn't with me to see it.)
She (the vessel, not my granddaughter) is one of the largest 'very large container vessels' in the world. A Triple E class, built in 2014 by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine in South Korea. Her gross tonnage is 194,849, cargo capacity 18270 TEU (containers to you and me), length 399 metres, beam 59 metres, maximum speed 22 knots and cruising speed 16 knots.
She is owned and operated by Maersk Line with the flag of Denmark.
I'm off the my son's partners joint 50th birthday party (she has a twin brother) in a short while so if I don't get to comment on your lovely journals later then I'll catch up with you tomorrow.
