Tom Traubert's blues . . . Matilda
and with that we bid adieu
This my friends is the fabulous chandelier of the Park Avenue lobby in the Waldorf Astoria (She wanted to - and did - waltz beneath it before we left) in spite of the change in corporate ownership, the 'Waldo" remains the only place (and my favorite place) to spend a few days and nights in Manhattan.
The history, the unequaled service, the decadence of the rooms, the impeccable bars and restaurants (even the oft - somewhat justly - criticized Bull & Bear) on that let me say, I was really offended (when informed) by the way a pair of female friends of mine from Britain (Wales actually) were treated on their birthday dinner the night before we arrived - cold spears of asparagus that even a steak knife had trouble cutting, entrees returned not once or twice but three times - seriously bad form and this after only dining there at MY recommendation, no upon my INSISTENCE that they do.
Learning of this hurt - however, the night before they did find Mimi's as 'advertised' so all was not entirely lost
So in total, our two days, (turned to four and a half) in the City was just the tonic needed for this weekend - Oye Vay this weekend - if chance presents itself, and the bank account allows it, The Waldorf Astoria be there or be square!
