Bridge of Spies....

We went to the cinema yesterday to see the new Tom Hanks film, the Bridge of Spies...which of course refers to the Glienicke Bridge in Potsdam...and what an excellent film it was too....

I took this photo in November 2014 when we were in Berlin for the 25th Anniversary celebrations for the fall of the wall so revisited the photos I took after seeing the film....

I'm not sure if they used the actual bridge to film the final scene where they do the exchange of spies as it was a very dark scene but it did look very close to this picture.....

I make no apologies for posting an older photo...it reminded me of a rather good trip and I remembered the information that we got from our tour guide whilst visiting Potsdam....

The film describes the bridge as though it's in Berlin itself which of course it isn;t but I guess a bit of poetic licence is in order...they also recreated Checkpoint Charlie rather well too...

I think this is a film that many youngsters should see as it covers a period of our european history when there was a very real threat of nuclear war and very little seems to have changed between the east and the west...all that has happened is that the cold war has gotten more sophisticated...times seem much simpler then...a thought provoking film in many ways....I suppose the spy games just carry on....and the threats are not just from one country any longer...
