Falling Arch, L'Aquila

In the early hours of the 6th April 2009, L'Aquila in the Abruzzo Region of Italy was struck by an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 which lasted less than a minute.  The medieval town was devastated by the earthquake with 308 killed and about 65,000 made homeless due to damage caused to between 3,000 and 11,000 buildings.  The town still bares the scars of that short event - it is likely that it will do so for decades.

Walking through the town, the scale of the restoration is huge.  That renovation throws up some interesting "engineering art".
