Maypole dance was in June
Wonderful sunny day, actually hot this afternoon even if there was a stiff breeze. None of the earlier billed showers showed and the School Fayre went ahead without a hitch.
We'd only been in the school grounds a minute before Emma found one of her best friends, whose mum is in charge of the PTA - and a very busy person today! So the two of them were therefore twinned for the rest of the afternoon. The giant inflatable slide, the huge bouncy dome (now it must have been hot inside that today), the kart-slope (terrifies the pre-schoolers). There was maypole dancing, directed by Mrs S, who I remember doing the same when G was at that school! There were dancing troupes, basketball display teams, the year 6 tug-o-war competition (I think Blues won this year) the coastguard had a car there, as did the police and of course, the fire engine, which Emma thought was a little intimidating, but her friend enjoyed playing with the satnav.
The face painting was given a pass this time as the queue was too long, they both had a go at the coconut shy, but I had to do it to get a nut (third ball lucky). Then her friend wanted another go and another and another until they gave her a coconut.
We didn't win the cake competition, we may have won the draw but unlikely, we didn't win the lucky programme number, but they did enjoy candy-floss, winning lollipops and browsing the book and toy stall - I bought a Thomasina Miers cookery book.
Finally, they both won on the hook-a-duck, both lost on the buzzy wire and the hoop a bottle and I enjoyed looking at the dozen or so classic cars that had been lined up on the field. The Trans-Am 6.6 litre was impressive, as was the PO Wireless Van! They failed to go on the tea-cups and they didn't buy an ice-cream from their form teacher, but they did have some drinks at the refreshment counter and they did have a great time.
It wore us out traipsing around with them, so what it did to all those who were working on the stalls I don't know. Well, I suppose I do as I did it for years. but then I was younger.
