Madeba Mosaics

Hundreds of floor laid mosaics in stone have survived in Jordan. My favourite is this 6th century Byzantine map of the Holy Land showing all the major biblical sites fromLebanon to Egypt. My picture doesn't really do it justice - it is lovely! Whilst there are a few inaccuracies, even by today's standards ,the map maker did a pretty accurate job... amazing!

Whilst the population is predominantly Islamic, Jordan is secular and freedom of religion is a statute right of the Jordanian constitution. When you consider it's location this really is refreshing!
