Thanksgiving
Not a stellar photo but one that chronicles a day .
One day last week I was irritated. i tried to ignore it but it festered beneath my skin. I wanted to growl and grumble and limp my way through the day held back by my own anger.........then it occurred to me, that was stupid.
So I swallowed the Koolaid people. I listened to that little teeny voice that actually paid attention In Those meetings. You know the meetings, The ones where your brain fights the rewiring. Snippets of positive phrases invade your brain with clip art decorations of people with bad 80s hair and in matching suits....phrases usually delivered in a voice by a irritatingly perky 23 year old girl (who's name ends in a y or an a) They say things like:
Only you can take charge of your day!
Turn a frown upside down.
Be the best you you can be.
All you need is love
Wait., that was the Beatles.......
Anyway,
I decided to turn a negative to a positive.... (Cherry flavored koolaid)
I saw this on a nursing unit and stole the idea. My friend Janice did it For the short stay unit. (I work at a hospital)
So I tried to find a brown paper bag at work....
Ok get this, the only brown paper bag was a handle bag from the flower shop for 3.50. Seriously.
Yeah my positive experience was just growing by the minute (read sarcasm here people).
so, I cut out the shape of a naked turkey.
Ok granted that made me smile
Then I made a sign that states:
"What are you thankful for? Write it on a feather and let us know"
People liked this idea. Someone even wrote that they were thankful for me! (Yes that leftover Halloween candy can be used for bribes....)
This was a hit and I am working on something for a wreath for Christmas in our department.
I am thankful for many things this year and grateful that I can laugh a lot. There were times that I thought I never would again. Or that by laughing it was being disloyal to those who were gone, I am thankful I learned that was not true.
Most of all I am thankful for all of my blip friends and those who read this on Facebook.
None of these by the way was on my feather.
Mine said donuts.
So to all of my friends across the pond and down under, know that someone is thankful for you today and will be raising a turkey leg (or a glass of wine) in your honor!
All the best to you
And yours!
