The troops were weary...

It had been a long day of fighting!

Today was great. We stayed in a lovely little apartment where the kids all shared a room. Then we went into Ypres and walked under the Menin Gate and positioned ourselves in the Grote Markt in front of the big screen to watch the ceremony. It was incredibly moving and upsetting for the adults but we were blessed with brilliantly behaved and respectful children.

From here we went to the Passchendaele Museum which was fantastic. My parents visited here recently and had recommended it and it didn't disappoint. The dug outs and the trenches really helped to educate the kids as they imagined them full of water and rats. I'm sure we'll return as the kids start asking more questions when they get older.
