Cost-cutting
The cost-cutting Christmas tree in Peterborough city centre failed to cheer up a raw, grey November afternoon.
The usual Norway Spruce has been replaced with a modern decoration 10m tall. It has already attracted some negative comments, with people describing it as a pile of Ferrero Rocher and a giant glittery traffic cone.
A Council spokesman said "Previously we hired much of the Cathedral Square display and last year this cost approximately £80,000. The council owns the new tree which cost around £40,000. As it will last for at least five years this represents a significant saving to the council.” Well, that's alright then...
