Another Perspective

There's nothing like a little height to give a new perspective to a previous blip subject!

The top floor of our YMCA offers some fine views of Bellingham, so I did a little photo shoot there after my exercise class today. With the Fourth of July (Independence Day) holiday coming up soon, I was attracted to this view, with the American flag waving against the backdrop of the 1905 Dahlquist Building and its smaller 1900 red brick neighbor.

The tall spire in the background belongs to St. Paul's Episcopalian Church, established in 1884 -- thirty years after the first Caucasian settlers came to this area. The church has a fine organ and is often used as a concert venue, as well as a place of worship.

We will be at another local church this evening for a benefit concert in support of the Interfaith Coalition and NW Youth Services, two outstanding nonprofits that do much good in our city and county. Enjoying ourselves and helping others is a marvelous combination!
