1930s Policeman directing traffic in Luton

I wonder what he would make of it now? Among many things, I imagine the fact that the main street has been pedestrianised would come as a bit of a surprise to him. Could people back then have envisaged the changes? I doubt it and that makes it interesting to try and look forward 80 years and guess how things will have changed to someone doing what I do, but combining a picture of Luton in 2015 with a picture of Luton in 2095.
