An old alley off Rowcroft

During our meeting to consider all the public comments about the Neighbourhood Plan we were all surprised by mention of a new way to access the rear of Rowcroft.  So Hugh and I agreed to go there to check it out straight after the meeting despite the pouring rain.

We found the main access route which goes through one of the arches under the railway viaduct which crosses the Slad Brook valley in the centre of town.  From there it connected with several other paths and car parking areas at the rear of the old Georgian terrace buildings.  It did surprise us how many footpaths all met there so we peered intently at the backs of the buildings.  There we discovered a narrow path between two buildings climbing in steps up to the frontage in Rowcroft. When I walked back to the office I took this picture of the alleyway from Rowcroft looking back down to Merrywalks area.  I had never noticed it before, and was surprised to see a man sheltering under the bridge between the buildings having a cigarette I presume.
