Hidden Aberdeen
St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Aberdeen certainly is very well hidden. The church is situated in a small courtyard just off Castlegate. It was the first Roman Catholic Church in Aberdeen with the foundation stone laid in 1803. It precedes St. Mary's cathedral built later and intended to replace St. Peter's.
I "stumbled" across the church when I was looking to see what the police were up to in front of the Salvation Army building on Castlegate. It looked like some sort of photo opportunity and a couple of them looked reasonably senior.
I wandered over for a closer look but I got distracted by my discovery of St. Peter's, and by the time I came back on to Castlegate the police had all dispersed.
The building to the right of the church was home to seven Sisters of Nazareth from 1862 to 1872.
The courtyard is very small but quite attractive.
